Chinatown Location

The Chinatown area in the Thai capital can be found along the 1 km-long Yaowarat Road and Charoenkrung Road which lies adjacent to it. Easy to get to from properties beside the Chao Phraya River such as Chatrium Residence Riverside Bangkok, this cosmopolitan locale can be reached by taxi or the MRT via the Hua Lamphong or Wat Mangkon stations. Keep in mind that this destination is worth visiting both during the day and at night, so plan your itinerary accordingly.

Shopping

For those staying at a Riverside serviced apartment, Bangkok shopping escapades in Chinatown can begin at the Sampeng Lane Market; as you wander along this bustling narrow lane, you will come across vendors offering all manner of goods including clothing, home décor, silk products, toys, electronics, handicrafts, jewellery, food, shoes and much more. Also, plan visits to both the Talat Kao and Talat Mai markets where one can soak up the captivating local culture as well.

Temples

Amongst the best things to do in Chinatown, Bangkok is to visit some of the city’s key temples which can be found here. One of the most well-known is Wat Traimit home to the largest solid gold Buddha statue on the planet! Another important sacred site is Wat Mangkon Kamalawat which is the largest Chinese-Buddhist temple in the city and a must-visit, especially during the Chinese New Year. Also of note is Wat Chakrawatrachawat Woramahawihan, a temple which is home to live crocodiles too!

Street Food

No trip to Chinatown would be complete without savouring the eclectic array of street food on offer including at the previously mentioned Sampeng Lane Market. Of course, as you walk along Yaowarat Road at night, you will come across plenty of street stalls and Thai Chinese restaurants as well; prepare to treat your taste buds to everything from dim sum, moo ping and oyster omelettes to fresh seafood, mango sticky rice and durian-flavoured ice cream!
