Koh Muk, Trang

A hidden gem off the Andaman Coast

If you are looking for the perfect seaside destination for your honeymoon or a romantic getaway, a Krabi resort with a full list of amenities laid on is what you should be booking. The small town of Krabi sits on the west coast of southern Thailand and is privy to splendid views of the meeting point of the Krabi River and PhangNga Bay. If you fancy waking up to the sound of waves lapping the shore and unparalleled views across the water, Anantara Si Kao Resort & Spa is the ideal place for you.

You can make a day trip to discover the small islands off the coast. Ko Muk is one of the most interesting spots in the Trang Sea because it is home to the spectacular Tham Morakot, or ‘Emerald Cave.’ To reach the cave you must swim through a dark sea cave or take a boat during low tide only to suddenly find yourself on a hidden beach surrounded by high cliffs. Story has it that in years’ past pirates used the location to hide their treasure. The island is made up of tall, soaring cliffs on the west side of the island facing the sea, while the fishing village lies to the east, facing the mainland. A modest Muslim-Thai community resides here. In recent times, some of the fishermen have taken up giving boat tours to tourists though most have stuck to the familiar fishing lifestyle. A few locals have opened small eateries or shops selling handmade souvenirs and toys.

Boat rides originate from Pak Meng Pier in Amphoe Sikao to take visitors to Ko Muk. Local ferries run all year round but peak season lasts from November to April. It costs around 1500 Baht to rent a boat for a day and the trip should take about forty minutes. Booking ahead is recommended if you are visiting near Christmas or New Year.
