Wat Benchamabophit Buddhist Temple in Bangkok

the marble temple

When in Bangkok’s Dusit District, one would find it extremely hard to not come across the Wat Benchamabophit Buddhist Temple. Initiated in the year 1899 upon a request made by King Chulalongkorn, the shrine is found in close proximity to the Metropolitan Bangkok which is a luxury hotel in Bangkok. This Bangkok luxury hotel will be good place to be based at from which many of the area’s other tourist hotspots could easily be reached.

The ordination hall or ‘Ubosot’ houses a Sukhothai style statue of the Buddha under which the ashes of King Chulalongkorn have been interned. One could also explore the gallery which surrounds the ordination hall in which 52 Buddha statues are found depicting different signs. The sight of monks receiving their daily alms during the early hours of the morning is one experience that must not be missed. The festivals of Magha Puja and Visahka Puja held during the months held during the months of February and May respectively are the main festivals held here. On a more adventurous note, the premises was used as the 10th and final elimination pit stop of the 9th edition of the Amazing Race.
