BANGKOK ART AND CULTURAL CENTRE

Travellers on the lookout for luxury hotels Bangkok counts among its most conveniently located rests should look no further than Anantara Bangkok Sathorn. Offering guests a strategic position from which to explore the city this stylish rest is ideal for holidaymakers as well as business travellers.

Tipped to be one of the must-visit highlights for culture buffs touring the That capital the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre or the BACC as its more commonly known is a one of a kind attraction for art lovers and connoisseurs as well. Ideally situated within a stone’s throw of the National Stadium BTS the venue is a hotbed of activity all year round with the best of contemporary art, music, film and theatre productions in the country decorating its annual calendar. Accessible to visitors free of charge this cultural institution is open from 10am to 9pm daily except on Mondays.

As the institutional epicentre of Thailand’s growing contemporary art scene some of the chief highlights at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre are the seasonal exhibits of art work by local and internationally recognized artists. Thematic and temporary the art on show at BACC range from paintings to photographic exhibitions and crafts. Some of the themes of past exhibitions have included new Asian photography while modern Japanese crafts and initiatives such as The Mekong River Art Project have taken centre stage.

Resembling New York City’s Guggenheim in both appearance and its chic interiors with curved stairwells the locale’s front square frequently showcases modern sculptures and other intriguing installations as well. Having opened its doors to the public in 2008 the art space which was 13 years in the making from conceptualization to realization features a series of photographs by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn dubbed “Always Roaming with a Hungry Heart” as its first exhibition.

Featuring a bilingual staff and placards the venue’s 4000m2 exhibition space is regarded among the finest in Bangkok. Housing an art library as well as several boutiques and a bookshop within its confines guests can stopover for a cup of coffee or enjoy snacks at the venue’s trendy cafes after an evening exploring the art on display.
